Yo!!! Welcome to the TEAM!!! If you’re reading this, you probably LOVE your boat almost as much as we love CUSTOMIZING them here at TEAM NUTZ. But maybe you’ve got that nagging feeling in the back of your head… you want that BUMPING audio system for the Three Rivers, but the thought of someone taking a saw to your precious fiberglass hull makes you want to jump overboard.
WE GET IT. It feels like "fiberglass surgery," right?? You’re worried that one wrong move and your boat is gonna have "spiderweb" cracks everywhere – OR – even worse, you’ll KILL the resale value when it’s time to upgrade to a bigger rig.
Well, grab a cold one and listen up, because we’re gonna break down why cutting holes for speakers isn’t the "death sentence" you think it is – IF you do it the NUTZ WAY.

Okay, let’s bust the biggest myth first. Your boat is NOT going to just fall apart because you added some 6.5" or 8" speakers. Most of the spots where we install speakers – like the cockpit liners, seat bases, or side panels – are NON-STRUCTURAL. That means they aren't holding the boat together or keeping the water out of the hull.
But here’s the kicker: WHERE you cut matters EVERYTHING. If some DIY-joe starts hacking into a main bulkhead or a stringer (the "skeleton" of the boat), then yeah, you’ve got a PROBLEM. That’s why you come to the pros who know the difference between a cosmetic panel and a structural support.
At TEAM NUTZ, we treat every "surgery" like a high-stakes operation. We check BEHIND the panel for wiring, fuel lines, and steering cables BEFORE we ever let a blade touch the gelcoat. You’d be shocked how many "pro" shops out there just WING IT and end up cutting through a wire harness. BIG YIKES.
Look, we love the DIY spirit – that’s why we have DIYCustoms.store for the parts! But when it comes to cutting fiberglass?? If you don’t have the right tools, you’re gonna have a bad time.
When we do a MARINE AUDIO PROJECT, we use carbide-tipped blades and high-speed tools that slice through glass like butter. We also SEAL THE EDGES. Most people forget that fiberglass is porous – if you don’t seal that raw edge with resin or a marine-grade sealant, water can seep in and cause "delamination" (the layers of glass peeling apart).
WE DONT LET THAT HAPPEN.

This is the question we get EVERY SINGLE DAY. "Ed, is this gonna make my boat worth less in 3 years??"
The short answer?? NO. In fact, a high-quality, professionally installed marine audio system is one of the BEST INVESTMENTS you can make for your boat’s marketability.
Think about it… when you’re looking at two identical boats at the boat club, and one has the factory "radio" that sounds like a tin can, and the other has a fully custom Rockford Fosgate or JL Audio setup with LED-lit speakers and a sub… which one are you buying??
EXACTLY.
The key is making it look FACTORY. We use standard sizes so if the next guy wants to swap speakers, he can. We make sure the wiring is organized, fused, and protected. A "hack job" with exposed wires and crooked holes WILL kill your resale. A TEAM NUTZ install? It’s a major selling point.
We don't just "cut and pray." Here’s how we handle your marine baby:

Don't let the fear of "fiberglass surgery" keep you from having the best-sounding boat on the Three Rivers! Whether you’re hanging out near the Point or cruising up the Mon, you deserve an audio system that hits as hard as your boat looks.
STOP BY THE SHOP or give us a shout. We’ve been doing this for a long time and we know how to treat your "investment" with the respect it deserves!

WE CAN'T WAIT TO WORK ON YOUR PROJECT!!!
Q: Will cutting speaker holes make my boat hull leak?
A: NO!!! As long as you aren't cutting below the waterline (which we would NEVER do for a speaker), your boat will stay dry as a bone. We only install in interior panels and consoles designed for gear.
Q: Can I use car speakers on my boat since they're cheaper?
A: DON'T DO IT!!! Car speakers aren't built for the "marine environment." Between the UV rays from the sun and the moisture in the air, car speakers will rot and rust in a single season. Always go with TRUE MARINE GRADE gear.
Q: How long does a typical installation take?
A: It depends on the project! A simple pair of speakers might take a few hours, while a full-blown system with amps and subs can take a couple of days. CALL/TEXT us for a quote and a timeline!
Q: What if I decide I want bigger speakers later?
A: We always recommend going with standard sizes (6.5" or 8") because they are easy to upgrade later. If you want to go bigger, we can usually "upsize" the hole, but going smaller is much harder!
Q: Do I need a second battery for a big stereo?
A: If you plan on sitting with the engine off and the music up, YES. We highly recommend a dual-battery setup with an isolator so you always have enough juice to start the engine and get home safely.
