• DISCONNECT THE POWER!! Always, always, ALWAYS disconnect the negative battery terminal before you start messing with wires. If you’re working on an RV, make sure that 7-way cord is UNPLUGGED from the tow vehicle. We don’t want any sparks flying!!
• READ THE BOOK!! We know, we know… instructions are boring. But EVERY system is different!! Some need different power draws, and you don’t want to fry your new camera before you even see a picture.
• PLAN THE ROUTE!! Don't just start drilling holes like a madman!! Map out where that wire is gonna go from the bumper to the screen.

PROTECTING YOUR BABY (THE VEHICLE!)

Your car is an INVESTMENT, so treat it like one!! When you’re running cables, you gotta protect 'em.

PRO TIP: When you drill a hole through metal to run a wire, the edges of that metal are SHARP. They will eat through your wire insulation in no time!! USE A RUBBER GROMMET!!! It’s a tiny little piece of rubber that saves you a MASSIVE headache later.

TESTING… 1, 2, 3… IS THIS THING ON??

Nothing is WORSE than getting everything bolted back together, the dash snapped back in place, and the bumper secured… only to find out the camera doesn't turn on. UUGGHHHH!!

DO A SYSTEM FUNCTION TEST!! Temporarily connect everything first. Hook up the power, plug in the monitor, and make sure you see a clear picture BEFORE you hide all those wires under the carpet. This saves you so much time and frustration!!

GETTING THE WIRING RIGHT!!

When it comes to connecting the wires, don't just twist them together and hope for the best. That’s a recipe for a fire or a short circuit!!

1. STRIP IT BACK: Take off about 1/2" to 3/4" of insulation.
2. SECURE IT: Use proper wire nuts or: even better: SOLDER AND HEAT SHRINK!!!
3. INSULATE: Wrap it up with high-quality electrical tape to keep moisture out. Corrosion is the ENEMY of electronics!!
